If you run an e-commerce site, you’re always trying to boost your sale. If you can increase your conversion rate, you can boost sales without spending a single penny on extra marketing.
So in this article, I take a look at 10 e-commerce conversion hacks that will substantially increase your conversion rate.
1. Make sure your site is fast
If your site takes more than 2 seconds to load, 53% of your visitors will lose interest and leave the page. So you have to make sure your site takes less than two seconds to load. One study shows that even a single second delay could result in 7% reduction in conversion.
Use Google PageSpeed to test your site speed. If your site is slow, the result page will tell you what you can do to improve your speed. But the two most common reasons for slow sites I see are cheap hosting and lot of uncompressed image. So don’t try to save money on cheap hosting and optimize your image on Compressor or TinyPNG before uploading them to your site.
2. Write great product copy
The image of a product is the most important element in an e-commerce site. But you still need to write stellar product copy. You need to write copy that informs visitors & drive action. Most people track a webpage with their eye instead of reading it. So you also need to format in a way that captures visitor’s attention.
3. Insert quality product image
The Internet is a visual place. In an e-commerce site, the product image is the most important element. People want to see what they are getting. Technically you can have an e-commerce site with just images of the product. But it won’t work without images. So make sure every product has several high-quality images. Show the products from different angles, different context.
4. Simplify the checkout process
One study shows that over a third of the people who abandoned carts in 2016 did so because the checkout process complicated. So Make sure the checkout process is as simple as possible. Try not to make people register for an account when they are buying a product.
Majority of people use smartphones to make a quick purchase. Most of the time it’s not feasible to register a new account. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t offer the option to create an account for faster checkout.
5. Reach out to people who abandoned carts
You always need to pay close attention to abandoned cart rate. If it’s too high, you may have a problem with your site design. You can recover one third of abandoned merchandise with site optimization.
If your abandoned cart rate isn’t improving with site optimization, follow up on abandoned carts via email a few hours after. If possible, give them a discount to lure them back to complete the purchase.
6. Offer free shipping
People want free shipping. It makes them feel they are getting a deal. So almost half of the e-commerce sites offer free shipping. Offering it can considerably increase your conversion rates. TrailCamPro started offering free shipping for orders over $99 and increased their sales by 20%.
If you can’t offer it, mention the shipping cost upfront. It’s a bad idea to just add it during the checkout.
7. Highlight your security and return policy
There’s been a lot of news and discussion about cybersecurity recently. People are rightly worried about it. So make sure your customers’ data is safe and let your customers know it. Buy an SSL certificate if you already don’t have one. It provides security and ease of mind to customers. Then signup with a reputable site security provider and show their seal clearly on your site.
You should also offer a return policy and show it clearly. Many small e-commerce sites don’t have one. But if you have one, your visitors will be more confident and comfortable in buying from you. They’ll be certain that you’ll take care of them if the product isn’t what they were expecting.
8. Provide coupon codes
Sometimes offer coupon codes that customers can use at the checkout to get a discount. The discount doesn’t have to be substantial. Even a small amount can increase your conversion rate.
9. Accept multiple payment options
Paypal is the most popular. 44% of consumers use it for payments. The rest prefer different payment options. You can’t make all of them happy. But you can accommodate a broad range of shoppers by accepting multiple payment options.
So add popular payment options like Amazon Payments, Crypto Currencies, etc. Otherwise many will go to the site where they can pay using their preferred payment methods.
10. Use live chat software
If you are available during business hours to immediately respond to customers, add a live chat option in your site. It can create a real human connection that will help build trust and loyalty.
But if you aren’t available, disable the option. Do not let it you are currently unavailable and that they can leave a message. It will send a bad signal.
Have you tried anything that substantially increased your conversion rate? How did you do it? Let me know in the comment?
